Along the Tumbleweed Trail unfolds as Chris Perry’s fictionalized memoir, tracing his journey from childhood on a small family ranch in Northern San Diego County to retirement after a long and mostly successful career as a Western Music performer.
In this fictional depiction, Chris’ musical path began when his older sister received a guitar, opening the world of cowboy songs to him. In high school, a mentor helped refine his skills and gave him his first experience performing in a band.
After gaining experience as a young performer, Chris joined the emerging Sierra Cowboys, launching a 50-year career with bandmates who wrote, performed, recorded, and managed their music together. His story reflects their lives and professional journeys, as well as those of historical and fictional performers and actors from the “Golden Years” of Western music and film.
Shaped by his understanding of the Great Depression and its causes, Chris became a devoted Roosevelt Democrat. Those lessons influenced his reflections on the major political and historical events of the 20th century and informed the perspective he shares on those defining moments.
